Myles' First Haircut

I LOVE Myles' hair.....I truly do. I have said that I was going to hold off getting his haircut until people start asking me if he is a boy or a girl. EVERYWHERE we go, someone comments on his hair and how curly and adorable it is...and I truly mean EVERYWHERE. We were in Home Depot one day, and a lady ran up to me and said "I saw him from 3 aisles over and I had to come see that hair up close" (true story).  But then reality sunk in. We live in the south. It is hot here (104 yesterday). And that poor boy looked drenched near the end of the day because he has so much hair!!! So, I had to do the good mommy thing and bring him to get his haircut.

I found a place that specializes in kids haircuts---has cool seats---police car, airplane, fire truck, race car.....they understand the kids may not be too happy----and they let the parents be in the way while taking lots of pictures.  So it worked out for everyone!  Here are a few pix of this new mylestone....

Myles first mile

It's official! Myles is a walker!  He took his very first step on April 1...and has been hobbling along and taking a few steps at a time for the last few weeks.  This last week he has upped his game and has been walking more than crawling.  He was advanced in Day Care this past week from the baby room to the Toddler room because of his walking ....here is a video to prove it!

Strawberry Picking

We brought Myles to this U-Pick It Strawberry farm this weekend.  He wasn't too sure what to do---then he had ZERO interest in eating the strawberries which I thought was weird...but he had fun climbing in and out of the plants and throwing the strawberries up and down the aisles.  He has been gobbling up the berries back at home though.

St Patrick's Day and outside fun

Myles and I headed to uptown Charlotte to see the St Patrick's Day parade---wasn't sure how he would react.  What he really wanted to do was to crawl and see all of the people that were in the parade, so he wasn't too thrilled with me about not letting him do so.......however, because of his amazing cuteness, almost every person handing out beads made sure he had some ..so he came home with lots of bead necklaces to play with.   A lady walking a dog also stopped and let Myles pet the doggie which made his day.
When we were in the waiting stage of the adoption--we didn't know if we were getting a boy or a girl--but it didn't matter to me when I found this amazing deal on this garden center. so I bought it and stored it in the attic just WAITING to be able to finally use it "one day".  The day has come and lots of fun has been had!!!  Myles loves to get the mail, eat the vegetables, play with the birds, make the door bell ring, etc---and it helps him stand up longer too as it gives him something to hold onto.  I am so glad I snagged this when I did.

I heard the doorbell--let me go to the door

bills...bills...bills all I get is bills in the mail!

pure cuteness!

Weekend at the Beach

We headed to Myrtle Beach for our wedding anniversary this year---it was Myles' first time ever on the beach and like any other kid, he went straight for eating the sand..and he wasn 't too sure what this sand was all about at first---but then he saw some birds and a dog and was very captivated and thankfully lost interest in eating the sand.

It was actually too hot and sunny for us to spend much time out there with him (didn't want to burn him on his first time out) but the place we stayed had many indoor pools and a lazy river that had a decent current to keep things moving which was lots of fun.

just a little giggling and standing

Myles has figured out how to stand by himself without using anything for support---here he shows us how on the bed while having some fun before bath time.  Walking will be any day now at this rate.   be ready to giggle because this kid is so freaking adorable it is scary!

Fun at Aunt Karen and Uncle Phil's

It was a yucky day here and we were all getting a little stir crazy, so Myles and I went to visit Phil and Karen for a little while to break up the day------and boy did Myles have FUN!!! Played with lots of blocks with Uncle Phil, tons of kisses from Aunt Karen,  Kevin swung him up and down and up and down and up and down---and the dogs! boy oh boy, did Myles have fun with Raisin and Paris!!! He certainly had a fun day!

Pooped on the drive home

blocks

if you can't brag on your own blog, then where can you brag????
so I am going for a Peggi moment for just a quick second--not looking for kudos, but I must warn you this is not about Myles directly.

I picked up knitting while in the waiting stages for Myles---I am not a good knitter by any means--I can do scarves, blankets, hats--simple stuff.  then I saw these blocks for kids and gave it a whirl--very easy in fact. 6 different patterns in 6 different colors = 6 fun blocks for Myles to play with.  They are fun--they are light and he can pick them up and throw them far. Now onto 2 baby blankets for expecting friends!

and we're off!

Myles has upgraded from scooching to crawling---and is now pulling himself up EVERYWHERE he can manage---and is now trying to take a few steps...so the Sawick household is in constant state of movement as of late.   Here is a video of him taking some of his first assisted steps using the walker toy.  First you have to watch him as he has conquered how to get in and out of his new chair.  exciting stuff!

Fun with Grandma and Grandpa

My parents couldn't stay away and thankfully came up to partake in the birthday festivities for Myles' First Birthday----They thoroughly enjoyed their visit and Myles had LOADS of fun with them over the weekend---everyone was pooped at the end of the days and we all slept well.   here are a few pictures of Grandma and Grandpa having fun with Myles

One of Myles' favorite books is called "Peek a Boo Kisses" and he leans in and kisses each page ---here is he showing Grandma how to give loving to the book

Sometimes, just have to relax with Daddy

First Birthday!!!!

Can you believe it? Myles turned one year old!!!  This year has flown by sooooooo fast!
But lots of changes this past week---no more baby food, no more formula......and he can have cake!

We didn't go crazy for his birthday--he is only one and won't remember it, nor did I want to overwhelm him and ruin a special day---so we had a small get together with Phil, Karen, Addie and Kevin, and Mom and Dad came up from Florida.  Myles was center stage and played the part quite well having lots of fun.

He was quite taken with the decorations

I made him a "smash cake" aka very large cupcake---and he had no idea what to do!

The texture of the frosting kind of freaked him out---then after a little help started to enjoy the cake

Not sure he is a true Burke as he was more interested in the toys than the cake---will have to work on that!!!  He really liked the chair that Aunt Karen and Uncle Phil got him....

it was a fun day all around! Now we tackled Toddler-hood and we can't WAIT!!!!
