trying to talk to mommy

Myles now mimics my noises and has come to love the noise like when your gurgle---however, he is still shutting down as soon as I get the camera!! Here he is a little bit---what you don't see is that we've been doing this for 10 mins before I get the camera! but his smile mid way is enough to post the video as is anyway----

randomness

Here are some random pix of Myles--will have a few more in next couple of days
He is growing like a weed and is much more active during the day---has discovered he has these appendages at the end of his legs called "feet" and plays with them CONSTANTLY!  So far, loving apples, prunes, green beans, barley and oatmeal.  And he is definitely my son as he doesn't waste a bit of food--barely have to put a bib on the kid!

Guess I have some catching up to do!

sorry, I have been off playing with Myles and have been bad about updating the blog!
Well, we had our 4 month check up 2 weeks ago---Myles is now weighing in at a whopping 15lbs and 10oz and 26" long!  crazy kid!!!!  So, the pediatrician gave us the ok to start cereal and solid foods. Memorial weekend Myles had his introduction to rice cereal--and LOVED IT. Then this last weekend was Sweet Potato and oh boy! watch out! I have been having to scrape the bowl!!!!   Here he is in his high chair getting ready to try rice cereal.

Picture below is about 5 minutes after waking him out of a dead sleep to get ready to go to day care---check out that smile!!!!

we got a swimming pool recently---haven't been able to put Myles in it yet as the water is too cold--but we will this weekend after a week of 90+ degree weather--so check back soon for pix of him swimming!

Ode to Jimmy

Recently, my Uncle Jimmy passed away unexpectedly. It was truly devastating as he was in such great shape and was not ill so no one saw it coming.  The quirky thing about the Burke family is that somehow, EVERYTHING reverts back to food. When giving driving directions always using restaurants as point of reference, ask about childhood memories--they will always include food--and ask about people, and somehow food will always be included.

And this is true of Uncle Jimmy. He made the best egg rolls ever---hands down. I remember going to Boston as a kid and it didn't matter what time we showed up at their apartment, there was ALWAYS a heaping tray of fresh, hot egg rolls waiting our arrival.  For special events, the treat was to get Uncle Jimmy's egg rolls.

so in honor and memory of Uncle Jimmy---I made a batch today--and thought of all of the fun times and his smile.  Rest in Peace Jimmy.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day has always been hard for me---I've been wanting to be a mother for so long---and the years kept going by and I was wishing everyone else Happy Mother's Day.  Last year was the absolute hardest---we were in the waiting stages and just never knew when "the call" was coming and wanting it to come before Mother's Day sooooooooooooooooo bad.  But everything happens for a reason, and God has his own timing on things.

But, this year, I am able to celebrate Mother's Day and am thrilled to pieces! AND my son is perfection beyond words.  To top it all off, my Mom was here with me to celebrate Mother's Day---so basically, my day was perfect!!  AND a perk of having your Mom here for the weekend is she wants to have some "bonding time" with Myles, which means Peggi and Matthew can go out to dinner! Something we haven't done yet since bring Myles home! it was WONDERFUL and a Win-Win for everyone involved! But of course, we talked about Myles the whole  time we were out.  We're still newbies at this, give us a break.

In adoption, the day before/saturday before Mothers Day, we honor the birth mother's of our children on "Birth Mother's Day" ..sadly, Hallmark hasn't caught onto this holiday yet--but I was able to finally find ONE card company that knew of the holiday and had cards.  Myles' birthmother is one amazing woman who sacraficed more than anything I could ever phathom.  She is beautiful, selfless, corageous and awesome.  if you know of any women who have placed their children to adoption, please recognize them as it is a very bittersweet day.

Trying to get videos

I have been trying so hard to get some videos to show you all how super adorable Myles REALLY is-----however, once he sees the camera, he stops! I enlisted the help of Matthew tonight---not a whole lot of luck, but a little better---myles has such a Melt your Heart Smile that he can do no wrong in my eyes!!!  seriously, imagine looking at this smile all day---my heart is in a puddle on the floor it has melted.  here are 2 takes---still not capturing the full smile--but it is kinda there.  enjoy!

Random Easter pix

just like this pix of Daddy comforting Myles while we wait for our Easter Church Service to begin....

Matthew's sister, brother-in-law, niece and her friend did make it on the way back from Florida--albeit after much car  trouble and traffic, wasn't able to get in til late, but we still had some Myles snuggle time in the morning before they left---here is Myles with Aunt Mary, cousin Taylor and friend Chelsea (be nice, it was 7am when I took this pix!)  He was a major flirt with all of the ladies and much more awake this time than when they were driving thru last week.

Happy Easter!

I was commenting to someone just yesterday morning how Myles just doesn't like to sleep much during the day---great at night, but will not nap during the day---that is unless I have somewhere to go with him!! I took him to see the Easter Bunny at the mall---I packed him up in the car, drove to the mall, stood in line, got him out of the car seat, handed him to a strange scary looking bunny, had his pix taken, went back into the car seat, to the cashier, strolled around the mall for another hour and shopped, and drove home---and he NEVER WOKE UP!!!  hysterical.

Aunt Mary visit

Matthew's sister, brother-in-law and niece spend the week of Easter in Florida every year---and they stop and stay with us on their way up/down --it is a great way to see them--and this year was especially awesome as they got to meet Mr Myles in person!  Myles LOVED Aunt Mary!! However, Myles also decided to try out a new trick and actually SLEEP! something he is not a big fan of---except when we have company who wants to play with him!!!  But Mary did get in a little snuggle time --hopefully they will stop on their way back thru again and see Myles awake.  Nonetheless, always great to see Mary, Kenny and Taylor---and her friend Chelsea this year too!

This is how I wake up!

I am soooooooo lucky....and I do realize it and thank god every day............but this is how I wake up in the morning--not to a crying/screaming child, but to this bundle of adorableness...sorry for the crappy shooting, but I was lucky to get him to keep giggling! he freezes when he sees the camera.

All Smyles!

Myles has been all smiles and giggles lately.  He has also given up sleeping during the day for just looking around and taking in his surroundings and is all smiles.  I tried to capture some of his "melt your heart" smile--but he freezes up when I get the camera! Now, that has got to change if he is going to make it in this family!  :)  But seriously, isn't this kid freaking adorable????????
Click HERE for more of his most recent smiles.  enjoy!

2 months old!

Can you believe it??! Myles turned 2 months old Saturday! this has been an eventful week:

Monday, I went back to work so therefore Myles began daycare. Here is a pix of him all stressed out getting ready to go:

He actually did really good at Day Care---all but one day. I love it because it is getting him on a great schedule. I truly lucked out, the daycare is within our neighborhood and I've known the director for at least 8 years.  She has only a few kids and only 3 infants. With that she has 2 helpers so there is lots and lots of attention.  She works with them and gives them tummy time every day, reads to them, etc and has the perfect demeanor you WANT your daycare provider to have.  I also like that she charts what he is doing every 15 mins so I can check when I pick him up how he slept, when he slept, when he ate, how much and all diaper changes.

We went out for our first restaurant outing to celebrate cousin Kevin's 15th birthday at Cabo Fish Taco on Saturday---here is Aunt Karen holding him (UNC was playing in NCAA tourney that day---Myles was sporting his support)

And the most exciting part-----we went for our 2 month check up today at the pediatrician..............HEALTHY AND PERFECT! Thriving is NOT an issue for this boy!  He LOVES his food!!   Myles is weighing in at 12lbs 10.750oz and is 23.750" long. AND trying to show off for the doctor--he almost rolled over for him today!! YEAH!

Here are some more photos from this week.........click HERE
