Grandma and Grandpa visit

My Mom and Dad stopped in to catch a little time with their grandson on their way to Maine....They will get more play time on the way back--but there were lots of smiles and hugs for the short time they were here.

Does it get any better than this??? Grandpa doesn't think so!

RIP Uncle Connie

My uncle Connie Knox passed away earlier this week. After battling diabetes for many years, God thought it was time for Connie to join him upstairs with the angels.  We will all miss his Christmas ornaments he crafted each year, his twinkling eyes when he smiled, his soft chuckle, his love for bees, his HUGE garden and him riding his 3-wheeler despite having both legs amputated.  Times like this I hate living far away. My thoughts and prayers are being sent long distance.

My boy likes his oatmeal!

What can I say, my boy likes his food---just like his Mommy!!!   This may not wow you as much as it does me, but I sit and giggle whenever I feed him because Myles makes so many noises when eating---like he is savoring every morsel.  I apologize for some of the footage as I was holding my phone/video in one hand and feeding him with the other--so every now and then the camera goes astray.

watching the news and talking

Myles this morning watching the morning news and talking to Mommy.  These vocal cords have been getting a workout lately!  he finally let me tape him..even for a little bit.

The Sawick Kids

Matthew's brother Michael, his wife Michelle and 3 kids from Atlanta, GA were in Charlotte for a lacrosse tournament this weekend--and was finally able to meet Myles too!  of course, the cousins were a hit together and doted on Myles---even started Myles with Lacrosse.  And this was a big event for London who is not the youngest Sawick any longer--but she seemed ok to give up her title to Myles.  We had a great time and can't wait for Jake's next tournament this weekend when they return to Charlotte again!

trying to talk to mommy

Myles now mimics my noises and has come to love the noise like when your gurgle---however, he is still shutting down as soon as I get the camera!! Here he is a little bit---what you don't see is that we've been doing this for 10 mins before I get the camera! but his smile mid way is enough to post the video as is anyway----

randomness

Here are some random pix of Myles--will have a few more in next couple of days
He is growing like a weed and is much more active during the day---has discovered he has these appendages at the end of his legs called "feet" and plays with them CONSTANTLY!  So far, loving apples, prunes, green beans, barley and oatmeal.  And he is definitely my son as he doesn't waste a bit of food--barely have to put a bib on the kid!

Guess I have some catching up to do!

sorry, I have been off playing with Myles and have been bad about updating the blog!
Well, we had our 4 month check up 2 weeks ago---Myles is now weighing in at a whopping 15lbs and 10oz and 26" long!  crazy kid!!!!  So, the pediatrician gave us the ok to start cereal and solid foods. Memorial weekend Myles had his introduction to rice cereal--and LOVED IT. Then this last weekend was Sweet Potato and oh boy! watch out! I have been having to scrape the bowl!!!!   Here he is in his high chair getting ready to try rice cereal.

Picture below is about 5 minutes after waking him out of a dead sleep to get ready to go to day care---check out that smile!!!!

we got a swimming pool recently---haven't been able to put Myles in it yet as the water is too cold--but we will this weekend after a week of 90+ degree weather--so check back soon for pix of him swimming!

Ode to Jimmy

Recently, my Uncle Jimmy passed away unexpectedly. It was truly devastating as he was in such great shape and was not ill so no one saw it coming.  The quirky thing about the Burke family is that somehow, EVERYTHING reverts back to food. When giving driving directions always using restaurants as point of reference, ask about childhood memories--they will always include food--and ask about people, and somehow food will always be included.

And this is true of Uncle Jimmy. He made the best egg rolls ever---hands down. I remember going to Boston as a kid and it didn't matter what time we showed up at their apartment, there was ALWAYS a heaping tray of fresh, hot egg rolls waiting our arrival.  For special events, the treat was to get Uncle Jimmy's egg rolls.

so in honor and memory of Uncle Jimmy---I made a batch today--and thought of all of the fun times and his smile.  Rest in Peace Jimmy.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day has always been hard for me---I've been wanting to be a mother for so long---and the years kept going by and I was wishing everyone else Happy Mother's Day.  Last year was the absolute hardest---we were in the waiting stages and just never knew when "the call" was coming and wanting it to come before Mother's Day sooooooooooooooooo bad.  But everything happens for a reason, and God has his own timing on things.

But, this year, I am able to celebrate Mother's Day and am thrilled to pieces! AND my son is perfection beyond words.  To top it all off, my Mom was here with me to celebrate Mother's Day---so basically, my day was perfect!!  AND a perk of having your Mom here for the weekend is she wants to have some "bonding time" with Myles, which means Peggi and Matthew can go out to dinner! Something we haven't done yet since bring Myles home! it was WONDERFUL and a Win-Win for everyone involved! But of course, we talked about Myles the whole  time we were out.  We're still newbies at this, give us a break.

In adoption, the day before/saturday before Mothers Day, we honor the birth mother's of our children on "Birth Mother's Day" ..sadly, Hallmark hasn't caught onto this holiday yet--but I was able to finally find ONE card company that knew of the holiday and had cards.  Myles' birthmother is one amazing woman who sacraficed more than anything I could ever phathom.  She is beautiful, selfless, corageous and awesome.  if you know of any women who have placed their children to adoption, please recognize them as it is a very bittersweet day.
